Semax is a synthetic peptide based on ACTH(4-10) — a seven-residue fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone — with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail added for stability.

What is Semax?
ACTH is a 39-amino-acid pituitary hormone. Residues 4–10 form a fragment with no corticotropic activity but documented central nervous system effects in research models. Semax stabilises that fragment with the same Pro-Gly-Pro strategy used in Selank.
Research context — BDNF and neuroprotection
Published preclinical research reports increased BDNF and NGF expression in hippocampal models following Semax administration, and it has been examined in ischaemia and cognitive-performance models.
As with Selank, most of this literature comes from Russian research programmes. Semax is not a licensed medicine in the UK and is supplied for in vitro research use only.
Semax, Selank and Adamax compared
Semax is the ACTH(4-10)-derived member of this family and has the largest research base of the three. Selank is tuftsin-derived. Adamax is an adamantane-modified relative of Semax with far thinner independent evidence.
